Hot House joined the Falcon Studios Group nearly a year ago, and it has seen a lot of activity and changes in the last 12 months. With the recent re-launch of HotHouse.com and a renewed and reinvigorated brand focus on ass, the editors of HUNT sat down to have an in-depth conversation with Falcon Studios Group President, Chris Ward and recently named lead Hot House Director Nick Foxx to talk about the past, the present and the future of Hot House, The Ass Authority.
HUNT: Chris, you have a long history with Hot House–give us a brief overview of your connection to the studio over the years.
Chris Ward: My first porn job was at Hot House back in 1996, almost 20 years ago. I wanted to be a porn star, so I approached them about doing a fisting movie. For some reason, they also let me direct it! That movie was entitled The Hole Punch–and we just found the original master tapes for it! We are going to re-release it sometime this year. I worked for Steven Scarborough at Hot House for three years, learning my craft. JD Slater and I launched Raging Stallion in 1999. I had a falling out with Hot House–with Raging Stallion we were now a competitor! I think Steven felt I had betrayed him by going off on my own. It was many, many years before we reconciled. In the end, I was Steven Scarborough’s most important protégé, so when he decided to retire he came to me to continue his legacy. Suddenly, I had come full circle.
HUNT: As you continue that legacy, what are the most important elements of the Hot House brand from your perspective?
Chris Ward: Hot House has always been known for super high quality and really hard core action–both mainstream and fisting films. Hot House was a scion of Falcon Studios, where Steven had been Vice President for many years under Chuck Holmes. Steven always had a clear focus on what he wanted to shoot–something that came out of his time at Falcon. Specifically, great looking, very masculine men, clean cut, doing very nasty things. From the early years Hot House had a line of fisting films (Plain Wrapped Video and Club Inferno Video) in addition to its more mainstream erotic films. But in all of these movies, fisting or otherwise, there was always a prime focus on hot ass. Over the years, with a failing economy, lower budgets, and other directors, the Hot House focus shifted somewhat and became more similar to offerings from other major studios. You had Falcon, Raging Stallion, Titan, Channel One, and others out there, all in the exact same market as Hot House. The brand failed to stand out as something distinctive….different from the other studios. With that in mind, we’re continuing to keep the high-quality and hard-core action with the hottest guys, but we’re turning the focus back on ass and the hottest butts in the business, confirming Hot House’s position as The Ass Authority.

HUNT: Chris, tell us a little more about your decision to appoint Nick Foxx to be the main Hot House director.
Chris Ward: Christian Owen left shortly after the merger to head off on his own as an independent producer. We have a great team of directors here, and each of our directors shoots for all three studios, but I felt that Hot House should have a “main director,” someone who shoots most of the content. Nick has been doing a great job with Falcon Edge, and I saw a scene he shot with Brent Corrigan that had some of the best Rimming we have filmed in a long time. Filming rimming sounds easy, but it actually requires skill to film properly–you gotta show the hole!!! I thought Nick would be the perfect fit. Besides, the other directors had their hands full. Nick brings a very good energy to his films, which stand out as excellent products.

HUNT: Nick, you follow some very significant directors who have had this position–Steven Scarborough, Chris Ward, and more recently, Christian Owen. Tell us about your vision for Hot House. What do you hope to accomplish in your Hot House films?
Nick Foxx: First, I just want to say that I’m absolutely honored to be chosen for this position, and I am really excited and happy about it!
One vision of mine for Hot House will remain focused on a lot more ass. When people think of “ass” I want them to think of new Hot House productions.
I’m pretty dead set in keeping the polished, crisp lighting Hot House is known for. I aim to keep that beautiful quality in the films and enhance upon it. And of course my shooting style and flare is going to be written all over it.
I plan on always casting the hottest men for every production I have. Men with beautiful asses and tops who can complement an insatiable power-bottom. I want to keep Hot House “beautifully sleazy”. That’s how I think of Hot House in my head. Beautiful men, beautiful sets, top quality lighting and film work, with performers really going for it! I want these films to excite people and easily get them off. I work in the pleasure business for a reason. I want my viewers to feel good, get some dirty ideas from my films that they can do in their own sex lives, and I want them to be able to bust a big nut watching my films. What I hope to accomplish for myself and Hot House is to broaden the fan base, shake things up a bit, still keep the gorgeous quality of the brand and then bring that all to the next level. I have plenty of exciting ideas and I can’t wait to start bringing them to life!

HUNT: Chris, tell us more about the renewed focus on Ass that you have implemented…
Chris Ward: To me Hot House from the early years was always the ass studio: The Ass Authority if you will. My job here is to try to keep Hot House, Falcon, and Raging distinct–different brands all shot by the same studio. That is very difficult, especially when we share directors, models, and locations. We pay lots of money for out top exclusives, and it only becomes cost effective if we film them in all three brands. So what we have to do is differentiate the brands in some way that gives customers a different experience with each brand. For Hot House I thought the best way forward was to get back to the original ideas Steven Scarborough had when he launched his studio–lets make it all about ass and position Hot House as The Ass Authority! So it’s not anything new to Hot House, but it is a major shift from movies Hot House had made over the past few years. Just like most gay men love great cock, there is a huge fan base for fine ass. In the straight market there are entire studios (Evil Angel, etc) built on ass. There is no such studio in the gay market–that is–until now.

Nick Foxx: I feel confident that viewers will be excited for the new ass-focused films we put out. Those big dicks they respond well to aren’t going anywhere! Nick Foxx: Ah, I love the asses on the A-Team because they are such diverse group of men. All ages, sizes, races. There’s no lack of hot ass in this crowd. It would take me a little while to talk about all 15 of them so let me pick out a few choice bottoms and get into it.

It’s a modernization and an update, and it’s all about ASS! Most of all, for me personally, I want to continue the Hot House legacy that was built by Steven Scarborough. It will change over time from his vision, I am sure, but I want it to be something he would be proud of.
