After one extremely long flight to Barcelona and a day of watching loads of porn stars strip and fuck for Hot House’s Take It From The Top, we’re finally getting the chance to sit down with one of today’s biggest names – Derek Kage!
Known for his deep voice and versatile talents, Derek has made a name for himself over the past couple of years with bareback roles in acclaimed projects like Tongue In Cheek, Cruising Confidential, and two hole-stretching hookups for Bred & Breakfast: All The Way Inn. This year even saw the superstar snatching multiple awards for his work in the Raging Stallion horror film Overdrive where he took on the role of a murderous (and extremely horny) rideshare driver. Now, Derek is starring in Take It From The Top and engaging in some steamy stairwell sex with newcomer Eros Manos inside a massive, multi-story villa.
Just moments after wrapping his big scene for Hot House, Derek joined TheSword on the ground floor of this luxurious home for a quick catch-up. While the Hot House crew shuffled around upstairs in preparation for the day’s next shoot, we discussed Derek’s traveling essentials, what it was like to fuck someone with a wrench, and if we’re ever getting an Overdrive sequel. Take a look at our chat below and to see even more from this fan favorite star, be sure to check out Take It From The Top over on FalconStudios.com.
Cameron: First off, congrats on all your success with Overdrive.
Derek: Thank you!
At the GayVNs, you had a very emotional response to your wins for Best Actor and Best Newcomer. Can you give us a peek into what you were feeling in that moment as you accepted those awards?
Oh, man. Pretty much, the last year or two that I had been in studio porn, I worked so hard. I had also just come out of a very dark kind of place personally, financially with my previous employment. To win those awards, especially Best Newcomer and Best Actor in the same year – which I don’t think has been done before – it was just every ounce of emotion including the sadness I went through and the happiness I was feeling. Everything all at once made me bust out crying. Just completely lost it, especially after I won Best Actor. Backstage, I just cried for a solid minute and the guy who was handing the actual awards to us, he gave me a hug because he saw how overcome with emotion I was and then I had to give an interview after that. I was like, “I’m okay! I got it! I got it!”
Have you or the Raging Stallion team ever discussed the possibility of an Overdrive sequel? Do you think your character could return possibly?
I have discussed with [screenwriter and co-director] Ben Rush… He says it is definitely something he would consider. I obviously would make a return as a psychotic rideshare driver fresh off a murder spree. So yes, we’ve talked about it. I don’t know if it’s official or not, but I would be thrilled to come back and play that role again.
And then I don’t know if anyone has told you this before, but you have a very deep and beautiful voice.
(Laughs) Really?
Do you ever get tired of talking about your voice or the effects it has on people?
Never. I would never get tired of people, you know, saying good things about my voice and especially people saying that they get off sexually to my voice. I think, okay, then that means I’ll be gainfully employed for a long time.
Looks don’t matter! It’s just the voice.
I could just do voice acting. I’ve started taking courses and classes to do voice acting like commercial voice acting, animation, audiobooks. I think audiobooks will be my bread and butter once my adult industry career comes to a close. (Laughs)
(Laughs) When someone first hears you talk, how often are they reacting to your voice?
Most reactions are kind of taken aback a bit like, whoa! There are some people I’ve noticed that have no reaction at all and they just kind of look at me and I know that’s also a reaction of, “Who is this person and what is this voice coming out of them?” So it’s either one of surprise or stopped dead in their tracks.
On top of Overdrive, you’ve done a bunch of other Raging Stallion projects. One that you did this last year that also won some awards was Tongue In Cheek where you put a… I’m really bad at tools, but I think it was a wrench you put in Greg Dixxon’s hole? What was that like utilizing a toolbox like that?
Well, I like to say that, if whatever that directors want, whatever the crew is really looking for for the movie, I say, within reason, let’s roll with it. Everybody was cool with it. Everybody’s like, yeah, let’s do it. Greg’s hole was very tight and the tool itself, the wrench, had a grip on it, so it was slow insertion.
Ooohhhhh!
Once we got in there, it looked really, really good. Because we were fucking in the back of a truck and it was a car-fixing scene, it was very appropriate for the scene.
So I’m safe to assume you’ve never used a wrench in your personal life?
(Laughs) That was a first.
If not a wrench, what is the weirdest object you’ve used for sexual purposes?
Oh, god. It’s been a lot. I’ve done a lot of BDSM work, so one is probably a zapper. An electrode. I’ve stuck that in my ass before.
In your ass?
Yes, in my ass… And zapped.
You just finished filming with Eros Manos. Is this your first time meeting him?
Yes!
Okay!
First time meeting in person. The chemistry was off the charts immediately. As soon as we met each other it was, “Oh, okay! This will work.”
Literally just five minutes ago, you finished pulling out from him and leaving his body. It was his first-ever studio scene. Do you have a review?
Oh, I didn’t realize that was his first.
I believe it is. I’m going to confirm it in 10 minutes when I talk to him, but I believe it is.
He has a bright future ahead of him if he wants to go into studio porn full-time or do it a lot more. He was so receptive – literally and figuratively – and he was willing to learn and adapt to whatever the scene called for. He has a bright future.
You guys are both staying here and filming in this beautiful house just outside of Barcelona. How’s your time been in Spain so far? I know you just got here yesterday.
I haven’t even been 24 hours yet and I’m already filming a scene. I’ve always loved Spain. I’ve been here probably ten times now, so every time I’m in Spain, I’m a happy man.
Do you have a favorite memory from Spain or is there something you have to do every time you visit?
Well, so my tattoo is actually inspired by the Sagrada Familia. Every time I’m in Barcelona, I like to walk around and see the Sagrada Familia.
On top of coming to Spain multiple times, you also just recently went to Brazil. You travel a lot it seems. What’s your favorite country to visit?
Oh, I am so horrible at favorites. I am so bad at them. Wherever I am, I am just the happiest person when I travel. I mean, if we were to say the ones I’ve been to the most it would be Spain and London.
Okay, so that’s the positive side of it. Have you ever traveled to a place and been let down or disappointed by a location?
No? The only thing is that… In my travels, I love experiencing everything that a place has to offer, but sometimes I go to a place and I’m like, “Yeah, this would be fine for a day.” But I wound up staying for four days and I would wind up just getting bored or just thinking that this is not my place. Like, I won’t be coming back.
Keeping on the tourist trend, can you name the city, state, or country that has the hottest men?
Oh, god. I find the vast majority of men attractive. (Laughs) So it all depends on what you’re looking for. I would say Spain definitely. Barcelona and Madrid have their fair share. Rio! Everyone in Brazil is gorgeous and every man in Brazil has a gigantic dick. London has beautiful Brits. Paris apparently has a large concentration of big-dick men, so it all depends on what you want.
What are your three must-haves when you travel? What are you bringing with you every time?
That is a really good question. I travel with so little… My filming equipment obviously. I have a pretty big setup for what I film with, so I bring all of my filming equipment. All my phones that capture multiple angles. I have an audio recorded to get special audio. (Pauses) That is a really good question… Have you ever seen Absolutely Fabulous?
Ab Fab? Yeah!
Tickets, money, passport! (Laughs)
(Laughs) There you go!
Yeah, that’s a really good question. I’d probably say all my filming equipment. Tickets, money, passport. And I know this is not a thing, but my willingness to adapt to whatever comes my way when I travel. Just an open mind that it’s the adventure of travel.
When you are traveling, window or aisle seat?
Aisle. I’m an aisle guy.
Are you a member of the mile-high club?
No, no! I am so terrified of getting on a no-fly list that I wouldn’t risk my ability to travel just for the mile-high thing. If you know anybody with a private jet though, that’s how I’d do it.
(Laughs) Okay, so not a member of the mile-high club. To close out though, I’m going to list a couple of other modes of transportation. Tell me if you’re a member of that club. Starting off – a boat?
Yes.
A train or a subway car?
(Pauses) No, no…
Hot air balloon?
(Laughs) No.
Car?
Yes, yes. Obviously. I mean, Overdrive!
